Chris James Profile

I am an experienced Consultant Orthopaedic Trauma and Hand Surgeon, specialising in upper limb surgery, including hand and wrist arthritis, sports injuries, nerve conditions, and fractures.
With over 10 years as a consultant at East Kent, I am currently the senior NHS hand consultant at East Kent NHS Trust. In this role, I regularly manage complex hand and wrist conditions, as well as major trauma surgeries. I take a patient-centred approach, always aiming to provide the most up-to-date, tailored treatments to ensure the best possible outcomes for each individual.
I have been a doctor for almost 25 years, having graduated from St. George’s Hospital Medical School in London. My training was completed through the prestigious Guys and St Thomas’ South East Orthopaedic Training Programme, where I built a strong foundation in orthopaedic surgery. In 2013 I was invited to the world renowned Upper Limb and Microsurgical Fellowship in Brisbane, Australia, where I had the privilege of working with Mark Ross and his team. This experience further honed my expertise in treating complex orthopaedic cases and reinforced my passion for advancing the field of hand surgery.
In addition to my clinical work, I am deeply involved in academic research and teaching junior colleagues. I have contributed to numerous journal publications, advancing knowledge in the field of hand and wrist surgery. Staying engaged in research allows me to bring the latest evidence-based practices into my clinical work, ensuring that my patients receive the highest standard of care.
I am fully committed to improving the quality of life for my patients, whether that means treating a simple injury or providing complex surgical solutions. My goal is always to restore function and help my patients return to their everyday activities as quickly and safely as possible with a smile.
